Many of us are not aware that tooth infections can cause more than just pain. They can also lead to fatigue, poor sleep quality, depression or anxiety, and an increased risk for heart disease. There are many causes of tooth decay that may be difficult to detect on your own. If you have experienced any of the symptoms mentioned above it is important to see a qualified dentist as soon as possible in order to get relief from your discomfort and prevent further problems!

Do you know what’s causing those pangs in your teeth? Tooth infections often go undetected because they start out so subtly. You might feel occasional pains or notice some sensitivity when drinking cold liquids. But over time these minor aches will grow into something much worse: chronic pain and illness.

Can an infection affect areas other than my mouth?

Tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health problems are not just a result of poor diet or lack of exercise. The bacteria that live on our teeth can cause infection if they get into the wrong place. This bacterial overload then leads to serious complications such as heart disease, endocarditis (infection around an artery), pneumonia, autoimmune disorders, and dementia.

Hidden tooth infections are hard to find because they can hide away in places like crowns, implants and root canals. Up to one-fourth of people could have an infection without knowing it! That is why it is important to seek out a dentist that can give you a holistic and thorough evaluation. At pure holistic dental we find hidden infections in teeth that have recently been evaluated by a dentist but got missed.

Is my dentist Qualified to find Hidden Infections?

Here are a few basic things to look out for when choosing a dentist for your health journey.

  1. Firstly, you must make sure your dentist is educated in the connection between dental health and the whole body. Keeping up with the current literature of science enables dentists to understand this connection.
  2. Second, A major piece of technology that dentists use to see hidden infections is a 3D X-Ray. A typical dentist will only take a 2D X-Ray. image of a problem area. This will miss hidden infections and put you at risk for further health issues. The advances in dentistry now make it possible to see every angle of your jaw and neck area with the use of a CBCT (cone beam). The CBCT machine is advanced cutting edge technology and will not be found at all dental offices. It is important that you ask your dentist if they have a 3D X-Ray. machine before you consider using them to find hidden infections.
  3. Lastly, the network between your dentist and top health providers enables you to be taken care of thoroughly. It is best if your dentist networks with surrounding functional medicine doctors, physicians, naturopaths, chiropractors, ENTs, and speech and language therapists. This will ensure that diagnostics and treatments are coordinated in the best way possible for your exam and treatments.

Where are most hidden tooth infections seen?

Dr. George has found the most infections associated with root canal treated teeth over 3 year old. If you’re considering a root canal, take a look at these alternatives. These infections accumulate over the year and grow larger forming abscesses in the jaw bone. This root canal infection causes a huge burden to the body’s immune systems as the bacterial flows through the body’s bloodstream.
